CMS Maintenance – What Should You Look Out For?

IMC Model #CMS Combo Hand & Utility Sink offers the best of both worlds when it comes to washing. The top sink opens the possibility hand washing (& useful for small wares) while the bottom sink can be used as a utility sink to fill water or to clean larger items such as containers, cans, or other wares.
Needless to say, CMS is a unique item that is made up of smaller parts to make a complete package. This means maintenance requires a bit more effort, but what should you look out for exactly?
In this article, we'll go over 4 key maintenance tips for your CMS. There are several things to be aware of, some of which you may have missed. Let's start.
1. Faucets (check them both!)
The life force of the CMS are the two installed faucets. The faucet on the top sink is a single deck type unit with a swing spout. Confirm that the spout does in fact swing & proper water is coming out of the faucet. The lower sink faucet is a swivel hose pot filler with a vacuum breaker. Confirm that the faucet is hooked up properly with no snags or tears on the line.
For your convenience, CMS is equipped with a removable side panel for access to connections & plumbing. This means you do not have to pull it out of your wall to maintain the internal systems of your CMS. Remember, the faucets must be operational, or CMS is virtually useless!
2. Drains (yes, check them both!)
This is a product with not one, but two drains. That means checking both for any clogs or signs of back up. Keep in mind the top sink is designed for light handwashing/ware cleaning use. Try to avoid discarding large scraps into this sink. Instead, the lower sink is better enabled for larger scraps thanks to the installed grating. Try not to go overboard though.
If a clog does occur, use the following helpful tips to clear it up:
A. Use a small brush to scrub inside to clear any obstructions.
B. Use a drain cleaner such as vinegar and pour down the drain to dissolve any dirt or grease.
C. For serious clogs, consider using a drain snake to break up or push through clogs.
The drains must always be clear!
3. Proper Mounting
The CMS is designed to be positioned on a wall with the use of a special “Z-Clip” mounting bracket – which is provided by IMC. Follow our detailed installation instructions here for tips on installing the Z-Clip and then properly mounting the CMS itself.
The Z-Clip is designed to keep your CMS unit stable & strong against the wall, so no accidental detachments occur. Periodically check to see if the CMS is firmly installed on the Z-Clip so no mishaps will occur.
4. Clean it (& We Mean All of It)
Cleaning the CMS will require a bit more elbow grease because of the additional components involved. Pay special attention to the following:
- Both faucets (as mentioned above, keeping these in order is vital)
- Both Sink Bowls
- Backsplash, edges & side panels
- Grating – make sure it is clean without defects
- Flanged Feet
With this checklist, you’ll have a sanitary hand/ware washing product that will comply with your hygienic practices. Try to avoid these mistakes when cleaning stainless steel – remember, no abrasives or rough tools!
CMS is a useful item that can fill the role as a hand sink & utility sink. Having an important item like this well-maintained will surely benefit facility hygiene & promote cleanliness.
