Frequently Asked Questions About Mop Sink Cabinets

When it comes to janitorial supplies & equipment, a mop sink cabinet plays a large role in keeping areas safe, sanitary & organized. However, mop sink cabinets are not just a simple item, but rather a complex one that has many different facets. Do you know everything there is to know about a mop sink cabinet? IMC has you covered.

In this article, we’ll answer 5 of the most asked questions about mop sink cabinets & offer you some insight into their usage & maintenance. Let’s jump into the first question.

1. Do I Really Need Them? If So, How Many?

Although most buildings do offer a janitor’s room, think of a mop sink cabinet as a “portable” version of a janitor’s closet that acts as a central hub.

Most mop sink cabinets are equipped with shelves, doors, a faucet & a sink bowl so you can exclusively work with the cabinet to get all tasks done. If you favor convenience & ease, a mop sink cabinet is ideal.

In fact, some local health & plumbing codes  mandate mop sinks for commercial establishments to dispose of dirty mop water. This leads into the second part of the above question – how many will you need?

It will depend on how big your facility is. If you are running a large operation, it’s better to have multiple mop sink cabinets on hand to speed up the cleaning process. In the end, the decision is up to you but remember to check local regulations to stay in compliance.

2. Can You Really Store Wet Mops & Chemicals In The Same Cabinet?

Yes, but there’s a better way of achieving this.

We highly recommend equipping your mop sink cabinet with side louvers so mops can dry quickly & efficiently. Most mop sink cabinets are also equipped with a holder so mops can stay upright in the drying process.

To take this a step further, IMC recently launched Model #CMSC-RF which integrated a louvered side along with an active fan to keep the air inside of the cabinet fresh – thus eliminating any musty or stale smells.

3. Do They Come with a Faucet?

All IMC mop sink cabinets come with a service faucet & attached hose to easily fill & rinse mop buckets. ½” NPT threaded pipes are required to hook up the water supply to every mop sink cabinet. Once this is in place, the service faucet & hose can be installed & ready to use.

4. Can a Mop Sink Cabinet Be Installed Anywhere?

The answer will vary by your local codes; however, some universal rules apply.

The floor & adjacent walls must always be finished with non-absorbent, waterproof materials to prevent water damage. It’s wise to detail out the drain requirements with a plumber before committing to an installation area. Mop sink cabinets MUST be level 100% of the time, so pick an area with a flat surface & no obstructions.

We’ve written a detailed mop sink cabinet installation manual here. Proper installation can be tricky, so always make sure you prepare in advance before performing these crucial steps.

5. How Do I Maintain One the Right Way?

We’ve also written a detailed guide here. Let’s run down the major things to remember:

a. No matter how much you use your mop sink cabinet, always remember to clean up the spills. Leaving moisture inside of your cabinet will lead to musty odors & mineral deposits.

b. Inspect all features of your mop sink cabinet for any abnormalities. This includes door hinges, the drain, shelving, mop holders & so on. Address any problems immediately.

c. Make sure all lines & hoses are tight with no leaks. Leaks can lead to an unsafe area around the cabinet.

The same rules apply here just as for any stainless steel item. No harsh chemicals, use a soft cleaning cloth & wipe down completely.
