Your Ultimate Knife Cabinet Maintenance Guide
A little under 2 months ago, we introduced a redesigned knife cabinet, Model #KNC. With a sleeker exterior design & improved knife holder, KNC is your companion for storing your most precious cutlery securely. However, don’t fall into the trap of installing one & never maintaining it. Knife cabinets need special attention as much as any other stainless steel product. What are some tips to keep in mind?
In this article, we’ll go over 4 vital maintenance tips for your knife cabinet. We’ll be suggesting some quality-of-life hints as well. Let’s start.
1. Does the Door Actually Work?
KNC is a moving part – which means there are pieces that are constantly being used & put into motion.
One of the biggest parts of the cabinet is the hinged door itself (how else would you access the interior?) Check to make sure there are no creaks, rattles or snags when opening or closing it. The door should also remain in place when it is fully opened. Lubricate the hinges with a silicone spray if this occurs.
To go along with that, see if the “T” handle is opening & locking properly. Over time, misalignments may occur. Make sure the door is tightly closed so the lock aligns with the body of the cabinet.
2. Knife Holder Servicing
Inside the cabinet, you’ll find the heart of the product – the knife holder. We’ve improved the knife holder by adding magnets, so it stays in place in the upward position. A secondary chain is also attached to the knife holder. Check all these components for any wear & address immediately. Ensure the knife holder properly pulls down with no snags as well.
Over time, the knife holder may become dirty as well. Take a wet microfiber cloth with non-harsh cleanser and go over the knife holder. You may need a soft brush to get into the crevices of each knife slot. Leave no stone unturned.
3. Don’t Forget the Rest
So, the door & knife holder have been checked. Don’t forget to address the body of the cabinet itself! A quick wipe down of the sloped top, sides & bottom should be sufficient. The rear of the interior should also be cleaned to round out the maintenance.
Check the side vents & make sure they are clear as well. Nothing should obstruct the vents as they are vital for air circulation inside & outside the cabinet.
4. Reassess Installation
Inspect the cabinet to see if it is firmly placed on your wall. Make sure it is balanced & not wobbly as well. You may have to re-install the cabinet to your liking. If possible, try to keep the cabinet clear of any other wall mounted items that may obstruct the door. Keep the knife cabinet at the optimal height so that the knife holder can be operated with no effort.
