A Simple Guide on How to Maintain an IMC Mop Sink Cabinet
Mop sink cabinets are an item that is used daily by custodians & other building maintenance officials. They enable you to store your cleaning supplies such as buckets, cleansers, gloves, brooms, etc. Many also include a service sink used for filling or emptying buckets. With such frequent usage, mop sink cabinets demand around the clock maintenance.
In this article, we’ll give 4 ways to keep your mop sink cabinet in tip top condition. We’ll also suggest some handy cleaning tools that should be used on stainless steel items in general. Let’s start.
1. Always Clean Up the Spills
Mop sink cabinets see wet mops, buckets, & rags among other items. This leads to potential moisture build up in your cabinet, which can lead to musty, strange odors in the enclosed storage areas. Failure to clean up excess moisture can also lead to mineral deposits, which can degrade the look of your cabinet.
To prevent this, we recommend completely wiping down & drying out the interior of your mop sink cabinet after each use.
2. No Harsh Cleaning Chemicals
Corrosion & rust is always a present problem when dealing with foodservice equipment. Applying protective coatings is the quickest way of avoiding this problem.
Remember to keep away from abrasive cleaners that contain chemicals such as fluorine or chlorine. These will only shorten the lifespan of your mop sink cabinet. Use simple cleaning agents such as vinegar, baking soda, turpentine or alcohol to keep your mop sink cabinet fresh.
For cleaning tools, use a microfiber cloth, soft sponge, or plastic scouring pad. Never use wire or wool pads or any other harsh tools.
3. Inspect the Door Hinges
Make sure the door(s) of your mop sink cabinet close fully. If the door(s) do not close correctly, it can be a potential hazard for your staff. To combat this, try to lubricate the hinges often, or whenever you feel them sticking to avoid this.
Also, inspect the locks of your doors to ensure they are in proper order.
4. Inspect all Lines & Hoses for Leaks
If your mop sink cabinet is equipped with a service sink, check the water lines & hoses for any damage. Water leaks can be a catastrophic problem & the best way to prevent them is to be proactive with your inspections.
Make sure all connections are secure & correct. If there is a sign of a leak, discontinue use of the service sink until the problem is remedied.
5. Check Your Mop Holder
Inspect the condition of your mop holder after each use. Take a look at the rubber clips themselves – are your mops/brooms being tightly held against the holder? If not, there may be a malfunction with the springs. Try to diagnose the problem & re-attach the rubber clip to the holder when finished.
IMC knows that building maintenance is vital & mop sink cabinets only complement this. Therefore, having a mop sink cabinet in working condition should be a top priority. For IMC’s complete mop sink cabinet lineup, click here.
