This is Model #HDCI – Cool Floor Trough

IMC is proud to introduce the next step in floor trough technology – the HydroCool Insert. After months of research & testing, IMC has finally produced a solution for water temperature control in floor troughs. What’s the significance of this & how does it work exactly? Let’s press on.

What is it Used For?

HDCI is primarily used for commercial & institutional buildings or large food prep facilities where hot water discharge must be cooled. Typical uses are under a tilt skillet or kettle or under any pieces of equipment where hot water discharge is present.

The biggest (& most important) reason for integrating HDCI in your facility is to comply with local plumbing codes. Various plumbing codes across the country require hot drain water (above 140°F) to either be cooled or to drain into a pipe that can physically withstand hot water. HDCI is the solution for cooling this hot water before it goes down into the drain pipe.

So, What Does it Consist Of?

HDCI consists of two main parts that are married with an IMC floor trough + stainless steel grating:

1. Quick Connector w/ Vacuum Breaker & Backflow Preventer

This is welded to the grating of the floor trough on one end & connected to your facility’s cold line on the other. This quick connector is only suitable for stainless steel grating & acts as the heart & soul of the tempering valve. Here’s a look:

2. Perforated Insert w/ Tempering Valve

Situated inside of the floor trough is a perforated insert with 1⁄32” seepage holes & 1” x 7½” long overflow holes on both sides. 1¾” wide flanges on length sides sits on grating ledge inside of trough. Along with this is a drain tempering valve secured to the insert. This valve triggers when hot water (at or above 110°F) is introduced inside of the trough. Here’s a glimpse:

Both parts work together to create a complete cooling system that can be equipped to most IMC floor troughs.

Let’s take a look at the whole picture:

Drop In, Cool Down

HDCI is designed to keep you in compliance. The fully integrated insert is durable, simple to use & effective. As a bonus, HDCI can be retrofitted in the field to most IMC floor troughs or other non-IMC troughs & stainless steel gratings. For a closer look at new model #HDCI, click here.
